Quilt show day

It's the second Saturday of July and that means it's the quilt show in Sisters.  We've been going to the show as a group for Atleast a dozen years but it never gets old. 

So Claire (confessions of an eclectic quilter) , Lori (Humble quilts) and I got up super early, packed our lunches and set off for Sisters.

I'll send you pictures and updates. I put in two quilts to sell so keep your fingers crossed!!

Today's project

Back in 2002 I went to the Houston show and took a picture of a quilt that I loved. I'd only sewn a little bit of it until this week when I got motivated.  Here are two of the blocks. There are pink/brown blocks alternating. I love these colors together. The quilt should have sashing in between the blocks and I think there will be 12 or 15 blocks in total.  The blocks are 3"finished, by the way.

Whimsical quilts

Yesterday I ventured into the quilt shops in Bend pre quilt show to see the displays. Quiltworks in Brnd has a monthly quilt show in their upstairs. This month is whimsical quilts and I think you'll enjoy looking at these, just for a change of pace!

Lori arrived late afternoon and we have our machines humming away already! Of course she has finished a top in no time! I'm sure she will post a picture.

It's been very hot in Sunriver so we are off for an early walk!

New quilting project

There is a new quilting project starting today called the "Row by Row Experience."  I learned about it from my friend Pat in Wisconsin.

There are lots of stores which are participating.  Each store has designed a row and the pattern is available in each store starting today through the end of August.  You can read all about it at www.rowbyrowexperience.com

There are prizes too.  If you sew together 8 rows and bring them to one of the participating stores, you are eligible to win 25 fat quarters.

For those of you who are Facebook junkies, each state has a Facebook page and you can "friend" the state. 

Not only that but each of the stores has designed a fabric made to look like a license plate!  They are selling that fabric.  I, for one, can't wait to get my Wisconsin license plates!!

I can't wait to stop at some of the stores in Central Oregon to start working on my rows!

I think this is such a fun idea.  I hope you will participate and definitely share the rows and patterns you collect!

Sewing during the naps

We have been in Sunriver with Emma and Ryan, and it's been so much fun. It is a treat to have grandkids filling our Oregon house with laughter and toys! 

Especially poignant for me is that Ryan is now riding the little bike all 3 of our kids rode. It was a very amazing bike we got from Rachel's preschool--- she will be 36 this fall!!

We have bikes of course (there are miles of bike trails here) and we got this trailer when Ryan was little! They both love going for bike rides. What a difference putting air in its tires makes!!! 

This leaves little time for sewing. I've been at my machine for an hour or so a day, during their naps, working on this swap from a few years ago. It is a beautiful quilt that I've found very daunting---I'm not very good at curved piecing!!

It's one of my projects for our retreat time when Lori (Humblequilts) and Claire (musing of an eclectic quilter) arrive next week after my family leaves and before the Sisters Quilt Show.

Favorite not-so-local quilt shop

I've told you before about my friend Pat's fabulous quilt store Life's A Stitch in Janesville, Wisconsin. I took pictures this trip so you could get an idea why I love it so much. From the moment you drive up, you are enveloped in beauty. Her flowers are gorgeous and she has both the outsider and inside done beautifully. Her shop is housed in a house that's over 100 yrs old!

This fruit basket was sent by our friend Sandy Vanek who recently moved away. It was yummy!!

All the samples and kits are so inspiring!! Do drop in if you are nearby! I understand there is a Wisconsin Shop Hop going on now and of course I had to buy some Wisconsin fabric!!
