Binding frenzy

I usually try to sell a few quilts at the Sisters quilt show in July and always find myself frantically trying to finish up in time. This year is even more crazy because I've been also trying to get our new house in Sunriver ready for my son's wedding on Friday.

This is the last quilt I finished and I'm running into Sisters to drop them all off.

Note Max is very comfy!!

I think this is my favorite and maybe it won't sell!!

This was a vintage top I got a few years ago. I love it, too!
This was from a swap many years ago.

Don't know that I'll get much sewing done in the next few weeks. We are having all the festivities at our house all week. We head back home next week before flying to Germany for the second half of the wedding! First year I'll be missing my quilting friends sewing at my house before the show... Oh we'll do it next year for sure.

I'll keep in touch!

The consequences of being stupid

I always try really hard to make good decisions and not do anything stupid. Usually I'm successful but yesterday I failed miserably!
I've had Emma and Ryan all week and I was trying to coax Emma back into the house with the front door open. Max bolted out the door and I tried to grab his tail to stop him since he doesn't easily come back.
Unfortunately I fell onto my left hand and it turned purple pretty quickly. I figured it'd be fine especially since I had the kids.
Nice idea.
But I awoke to my hand completely swollen and still purple so I'm off the the dr afterall. Kids are being picked up and returned to my house until I get back. I was hoping to do some sewing during nap time but now I'm but so sure!

Morale of the story is don't make stupid decisions!!

25-patch done

One project I really wanted to finish this trip was my 25-patch using a lot of French General fabrics. Remember I asked you about the choice of sashing?? Not many people liked the one I chose but since I'd already sewn so many strips to the blocks (and since I hate unsewing) I kept with my choice. It's subtle but I'm happy with the overall look!

I love the view!!

This is what others have done so far:

Char made a bag

Peggy is making bridesmaids gifts

Sandy does beautiful beading along with Tamra:

One of my favorite Wisconsin treats is the Spotted Cow beer from New Glarus. Here we were being a little silly!

Another picture of the gorgeous area:
Hopefully I'll still get more done the rest of the time.

Finished baby quilt

I worked feverishly to finish the baby quilt for a friend's new granddaughter. They have a place in Hawaii so I wanted to use a Hawaiian theme.

There was the suggestion that I add an inner pink border (because that's what I got from Debbie's stash) but I thought the pink border by itself was perfect. The leis kind of flow!

We are retreating at an amazing place in Browntown, Wisconsin situated on 22 acres in a 4,000 sq foot log cabin, complete with swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and a wonderful sewing area. It's called Prairie Star Retreat and it's just wonderful. There's a wrap around porch with rocking chairs. Now if it would just stop raining we could go outside!! I know, this California girl isn't complaining at all!!

Peggy and Bonnie are working on their cheddar delight quilts!

Terri and DarLynn

This is a retreat made in heaven. There are 12 of us, all women I've come to know and love here in Wisconsin so I'm wishing the time would slow down!!  Life's good and I feel very lucky!

Quiltworks June show

The wonderful lqs in Bend, Quiltworks, changes their gallery every month. I'm in Bend for a few days this week and was eager to see the show!

The featured quilter is Grace Grinnell who does more artsy things, which are quite interesting.

I love the colors on this one!

Across the room is a display of the traveling Notable Women Quilt Initiative.

These quilts are extremely interesting.

I loved this one!

I don't know who is choose to depict in a quilt. Assuming I could even do it. Who would you pick??

More Info on doll quilt

I had not realized that the darling doll quilt that I received from Lorraine was made from a mystery that had been run by the Temecula Quilt Co. Apparently, the challenge was to add a piece of fabric each day to a block.

So the first day was one piece of fabric. The next day was two pieces of fabric.
Apparently the fabrics could be repeated.

Here are some pictures of some of the blocks so you can hopefully see what I mean. I think it's a great idea for a challenge.

Day 3; 3 pieces of fabric

5 pieces of fabric

Here is another shot of the whole quilt so you can see what I'm talking about. And she even put them in the order so they progress from 1 to 12.

I just love it.

On another note, remember I bought that fabric in Hawaii to make a baby quilt for a friend's granddaughter? I'm getting ready for a trip to Wisconsin so I'm starting to put some projects together. I looked through some books yesterday and found a pattern in an old scrap quilting book. This is the block and what I've  done so far. I think it's cute and a nice change of pace!

This is what I  made from 5 fabrics;
I think the block is Puss in the Corner and the book is by Lynn Roddy Brown. Quick and easy! They are 6"

More to follow!!
