One huge finish

The drive up and back to the cabin takes a total of at least 16 hrs!  Lots of time for hand-sewing.  My goal this trip was to finish this freebie from Primitive Gatherings last summer.

I'm delighted to share the finished project with you.  I learned a lot about embroidering straight lines... not as easy as it looks!

I think it'll lend itself to some great quilt magic by my long-arm quilter.  I'm really excited that it's done and I do love how it came out.  If you're interested in inheriting the patterns, let me know.  I'm surely not going to make it again.

This week I tackled the Cheddarback quiltalong by Sentimental Stitches.  I'm still going to shop around for sashing for these blocks and am optimistic I'll find something in Maine at Cyndi Black's shop!  Very excited for that trip!  I've decided I need to use more pink and brown, which is the primary color theme this month.

The reddish background fabric is from a very small scrap of fabric I got in France when I was there for the Ste Marie aux Mines quilt show years ago.  Fun to remember the source of fabric, isn't it??

This week is the end of kindergarten for little Emma and my daughter encouraged me to donate a quilt to her teacher.  Well, I didn't have any trouble finding one that I thought she'd like.  This was my own pattern, using left-over strips that I use for strings. I volunteered many times in the classroom so I was happy to give her very loving and patient teacher one of my quilts.

Have to share the picture of the graduate with me!  Yes, she is missing her two front teeth!  The kids had to draw a self-portrait and say what they wanted to be when they grow up.  Hers?  A cow-girl!! Gotta love this little one.

  1. Your basket quilt is wonderful! Is this on the small size? It is hard to judge the size in the photo.

  11. All Things Grow With Love is gorgeous! I love how each block adds a flower! I see a few others that are interested in the pattern...please add my name to the list! I promise to pass the pattern along to someone after I finish (which would be this Summer)... Your teacher's quilt is so pretty! So many colors...almost like a box of crayons! :-) Great pic of you and Emma...let her know that the secret to success is to follow her happiness...and while she may grow old....never "grow up"! :-)

  13. That Emma is a cutie pie! I love that toothless smile! What a wonderful gift her teacher will receive. Love those scrappy stars. Your little wool quilt is gorgeous. No thank you on the pattern, but I'm sure you will find someone who will actually use it. I leave wool to the experts now. I'm getting so excited to see you. And, I'm sure Cyndi will have the perfect fabric for your sashing!
