Checking in

My little Temecula stay at home sampler is really fun.  I'm doing it in blue/white/yellows.
They are precious little 3" blocks that take about 10 minutes to make each day! My kind of project!

My plan is to combine these blocks into a quilt with these blocks I had put aside.  This was a project I started but didn't get very far.  So now I'm incorporating them into a new project, which will hopefully get finished this time around!

My dh drove back to California today to pick up some of our things and our mail so I am going to have several days on my own!  I will probably have him bring me more fabric and ufos!  This is looking like it's going to be a while!

What can I do when I'm alone??? Besides sewing??
BAKE.  I saw this recipe on Facebook and decided it sounded perfect for a Sunday morning.  What could ever be wrong with a coffee cake??  this recipe called for using Bisquick, which I didn't have so I found a way to make my own.  PERFECT.

I have also really been in the mood for making sourdough bread but I don't have a starter so I found a recipe for that and have been making my starter little by little.  Today is Day 5 so it's almost ready to use.  I've never had my own sourdough starter.  I'll let you know how that goes.  I could definitely eat an entire loaf of sourdough bread, right out of the oven. With butter!  And being alone will make it my entire dinner!!

Hope everyone is staying safe and is healthy.  We have been staying in place for 5 weeks now, here in Central Oregon.  It's a great place to be quarantined;  each day I go for a 5 mile walk with a friend (we talk on the phone!!);  it's perfect.  if I didn't eat so much of the coffee cake, I'd probably lose a little weight. ;-))

Be well.

  2. Your little blocks are adorable! I've been feeling the urge to bake also, but have done mostly cookies, cakes and banana bread. I need more walking too--lol!

  4. Sweet little blocks. All that walking is a great way to counterbalance all the baking we've been doing.🤐

  5. Five weeks in quarantine... it's only been three weeks for me here in NJ. And, I can honestly say that I'm feeling it's going to be veeeeeery difficult (and tiring) to get back to the normal routine of working full time, etc...when we are told to! lol! As long as I don't watch the news....I'm enjoying days full of sewing, baking, gardening and homekeeping....:-) Be safe and stay well!

  6. hi friend! that coffee cake looks really yummy. I just ate 2 donuts from dunkin. I should walk 5 miles now. I love sourdough too. My favorite is to have it toasted and then with butter and blackberry jam.
Your blocks look great and both fun and challenging.
a few days alone? easy peasy and yay you'll get some fabrics and ufos when he is back.
stay well and it was great to see your post today.

  7. Love your little blocks. So charming and together they will make a lovely project. Coffee cake looks yummy! I’d eat the whole thing. And sour dough bread! Ohhhhh! So good. Once and crusty on the outside, moist and tender in the middle. That and a bowl of homemade soup is fine feasting. Let us know how it turns out!

  8. I just found your blog. you are a prolific sewist, but then, being a lawyer for so many years, you are retired and on fire. That is good.
I love all of your many projects.
I am so happy to find your blog. I think I clicked on your name on Bonnie Hunters blog.

  9. I love sour dough bread and have often thought about starting to make it, but never did it. I look forward to seeing your report on it when you start making it. I love it with butter, swiss cheese with or without lettuce. Mmmmm.

  11. The little blocks are so sweet. Oh it sounds like heaven, where you are. Nothing more delicious than coffee cake! Good luck with your sour dough. It's such a trend now:). I've been baking bread (not sour dough) and eating way too much of it. For me it's the ultimate comfort food. That's great that you are walking and talking - great combo.
