Have you ever gone in for a trim and wound up with a haircut you hated??
Well, I'm very sad to say it happened to me yesterday!
I have very curly hair which I've been growing for a while. Yesterday I went in for a trim and my hairdresser (new to me) thought I had too much volume in the back. I thought it was okay to shorten it a bit--- he got carried away and he cut it all off! In the back, so I couldn't see until it was done!!
Ever had an asymmetrical hair style? Well, that's me now! Sides and top are much longer than the back!! Oh abd not only that but one side is longer than the other!!!! What can I do??
I'd love to hear if this has happened to anyone else! It might make me feel better!
Have a great Friday!
Love to you all
Randy
Maybe you will start a trend. In the 90s, I had asymmetrical and it was stylish. We've all been down that bad haircut road.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I've had this happen! I called the salon the next day, after trying to 'make it look like something', and was practically in tears. The manager had me come right in, I was taken to a different stylist who understood this was to fix it, and she did. I ended up booking with her from then on. It didn't cost me anything to have it fixed, although I did tip her well.
ReplyDeleteThey are supposed to make it right! You are supposed to feel like a movie star when you walk out of there. And if you don't, they need to fix it! Don't live with it if you hate it, call them.
And I'm not one of those people who complain all the time, either. I usually just live with stuff. But you paid a lot for your style and you should be happy with it. Plus.....they want to keep their good reputation, and they'll WANT to fix it, to make you happy, so you'll come back.
Oh Randy, this ha^ppened to me so many times, but last year i found a gem:
ReplyDeletei now pay 10 euros for a haircut and all my friends PLUS my daughter, go to see her and are over the moon. So next time you come to Paris......
It's frustrating but not a disaster, hope you can laugh about it in a few days , Love and hugs for you and the family, Will
I trim my own hair, so I haven't had the experience as an adult. As a child my Mom took me in regularly to get my naturally curly hair cut to a Pixie style, so she didn't have to comb through my tangles. She thought it was so "cute" and I hated it. When I was old enough to manage my own tangles I stopped getting those cuts.
ReplyDeleteI think Regan gave you some good advice. Assert yourself, Randy! vbg
I, too, have curly and naturally wavy hair. My blood runs cold everytime I go to a new stylist who, when I sit in the chair in front of them says, "Oh, I have the same kind of hair as you ... I know exactly how to cut it". NOT!!! I wear my hair in a "wash and wear" style ... I don't primp, I use very little "product" and I wash my hear every day, drying it with my fingers. I want my sides a little longer because I tuck it behind my ears sometimes. I want my bangs longer because they curl up tightly anyway when dried. I have a "cowlick" that I've come to an uneasy peace with and know how it behaves. I get so frustrated sometimes that I let my hair go to the point that I absolutely HAVE to get it cut rather than doing it on a regular, scheduled basis ... it is so frustrating!! I feel your pain, Randy ... I truly do.
ReplyDeleteOH NO! The bad haircut!!! I had hair down to my waist and deicded it was time for a change. Found a cute cut in a magazine and brought it in the the stylist. "Can you do this?" I asked. "Oh yes", she said. "If you can't, it's OK....tell me now." "Of course I can do this." NOT!!! The first cut into my waist lenghth hair was up in the center of my ear! No rescue from that. To add insult to injury the hair was permed and I looked like an 88 yr old woman. It took me weeks of wearing bandanas on my head before I could stand to have my hair seen in public. I hope you're experience goes much smoother and that your hair grows much faster than mine :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my world!! I have very fine hair and have been wearing a blunt cut bob for many years as it makes my hair look fuller!! Just before Christmas (yup!!)-- my hairdresser decided for herself that I needed layers--without warning me--now I am wearing hats!! I look like all I need is a "blue rinse" and I'll look 90--(not that there's anything wrong w/90--but not for me now!!) Yuck--flyaway, all different lengths--I look like a squirrel when I get up in the morning!! BUT--at least it'll grow--not like badly cut quilt pieces, huh? Hang in... Julierose
ReplyDeleteOh yes! The anniversary of my last salon cut will be 2 years in March! I just gave up dealing with all the bad cut and scheduling issues!
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has had a horrid haircut. I still remember one I had thirty years ago. I went to a "top" salon and I could have shaved the stylist bald for what they did to my hair. They wanted to perm my hair and I warned them it took perms really easily so only do a very mild one. They didn't listen and then just couldn't understand why I hated it. "What, you'd walk around with clown hair!" It took what seemed like forever for that horrid perm to finally relax enough for me to be able to style it. My advice is to take a few pictures so you'll have something to laugh about several decades from now. Wish I had.
ReplyDeleteIt just happened to me last month, right before Christmas! It wasn't even a new hairdresser, my same one, she just misunderstood me. First she completely covered up my expensive die job, because she thought I wanted to. This killed me because I normally die my own hair for $4 a box compared to $130 for something I hate :( Then she cut it way too short and didn't even up the sides, totally lopsided. I just cried when I got home :(
ReplyDeleteCall the salon and speak to the manager. They should have you come in and 'fix' it for free. I had a hairdresser I loved but then moved across country. 1.5 years later and last week I finally had a cut I liked - short hair so I have it cut monthly. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWhat Regan said... if you're unhappy, then the salon needs to make it right by you. They can't make the hair grow back faster but you should have it fixed the best they can.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't trust the salon to make it right... then at least call and complain nicely... and give specifics about what you do not like.
We've all been there... finding a decent hair stylist is harder than finding a good ob/gyn, imho!
OMG Randy, first of all, you are beautiful to us no matter what your hair looks like, but I do know that you have to love your hair or we are just not a happy campers. My worst hair cut came last year...FROM MY DAUGHTER WHO JUST GRADUATED FROM A HIGH CLASS BEAUTY SCHOOL. I was devastated, she cut me way too short and I have a few colics. She also Flat ironed my hair...really? I held my composure until I got in the car and cried all the way home. Now she does my color, which she does a wonderful job, but then I go to someone else for my cut. p.s. guess who paid for the schooling? :)
ReplyDeleteNow she has lots of experience, so maybe I'll give her another try...we'll see.
Oh yeah, been there done that with the addition of a chemical burn from hair coloring. You'll just have to wait this out......you know it will grow quickly. I do hope you let him know you were unhappy and if you ever go back to him he must ask you about changes FIRST or he needs to damn well follow your instructions. I love to try new hairstyles but not when it is my hairdressers idea!!
ReplyDeleteNow I am growing my hair out to get ready for the heat and humidity of the southeast. I'll be able to pull it back and pull a hat over it ot else I'll have a ball of frizz!
Sorry you have to suffer for a few weeks but it will grow out......besides Ryan and Em will still think you are the best Nana!
Happy Sewing
southeast.
Vidal Sassoon was known for asymmetrical cuts!! No photo? Sorry girlfriend!!
ReplyDeleteMany years ago, I realized about half way through my haircut that the stylist was drunk. I couldn't see what she did in the back until I got home--thank goodness hair grows back! Obviously I never went back to that salon and luckily have found a wonderful gal that "gets" my hair. I will never switch!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt was a 'hair dresser' for years. I swear she knew one hair cut....really short. She also did a fantastic home perm NOT. I spent many years as a poodle.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the bad haircut. I feel your pain and frustration.
Oh my gosh, yes when you say just a TRIM of 1" they snip 3!!! Must be some hairdress code we don't know haha Maybe next time I'll say 1/4" just like QUILTs :-) and hope they only take 1"?
ReplyDelete*sigh* yes we know it does grow out, but... in the mean time argh!
;-Dee
Gonna show us a picture?
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the grands this week :0)
Happy Sewing
Oh boy have I! A good hairdresser is harder to replace than, well, just about anything! The only thing good about a bad cut is that it WILL grow back. Eventually. When my hairdresser took a maternity leave I nearly had to get a brown bag with eyeholes to cover my head until she decided to come back to work. My sympathies...
ReplyDeleteCall the manager and have him/her direct you to the best stylist they have to fix the problem! They should do this for free and should not give you any grief about it.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry this happened to you! Nothing like a bad haircut to ruin your day/month!

Right before I went on vacation one year my stylist wasn't there and they gave me another girl. My hair was shoulder length and I just wanted my bangs and ends trimmed. The idiot pulled back my hair like it was going to be put in a pony tail, picked up the scissors and cut it off. By the time she was done every hair on my head was about two inches long. I know it's only hair and it grows back but it took more than a year to get it back to my chin! I wanted to cancel my vacation but I went and wanted to wear a bag on my head but settled for a hat! My sympathies to you.... and I won't tell you that it will grow back! :)
ReplyDeleteMy solution is to take my teenage daughter with me. She stands off to the side and supervises...keeps em on their toes.

ReplyDeleteI once got a haircut while on vacation in Phoenix because my bangs were in my eyes and driving me crazy. A pretty nice salon close to the hotel took me as a walk-in; I never expected to be treated so badly. I ended up with a bob with one side almost 2" longer than the other side and bangs like you see in a third grade picture - i.e., about 1" long. I sat outside for a while, stewing about it, and then marched myself back in and demanded that it be fixed - and I wanted my money back, since they messed up the haircut. I ended up with much shorter hair than I planned but at least it wasn't crooked. The worst thing was the stylist wasn't the least bit apologetic and gave me attitude the whole time. I left thankful that I wouldn't have to see them again.
ReplyDeleteI love my hair stylist and have followed her to three salons as she changed employers. So sorry about your experience - hope it grows back soon! In the meantime - it's winter, you can wear hats.
Oh yes. I've been there. I got scalped by a new hairdresser so badly I nearly cried. If I had had the time available I'd have taken two weeks vacation to let it grow a bit before going back to work. Luckily a friend knew how upset I was and warned my co-workers not to comment! I was so embarrassed. Of course, it grew back and I never went back to that hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteSince you've been AWOL from the blog for over 2 weeks I'm beginning to get worried about that haircut. How bad WAS it???
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking the same thing - And you have junk posts that sit unremoved. Are you still out there? What's the hair update. Should we be worried?
