Coyote Road - a bit weird

We went on a little excursion to a quilt store, Country Sampler in Spring Green, which is a great store in a very charming town. It's a drive through very small country roads. Along the way, we passed by this sight and couldn't resist snapping a picture. We couldn't quite figure out the reason for this-- maybe to warn other coyotes to stay away!! Anybody know??

  1. Oh, my goodness! How bizarre. Must be a real coyote problem in the area. Still, seems a bit unnecessary to display them in this way. I wonder if they are animal ranchers of some sort trying to convince the wildlife management folks to control the coyote population.

  2. Its probably because they sell them and the buyer can pick the hide they want. I bet they are killed by farmers, especially during calving season.

  4. When the field mice were getting into my sewing room and chewing on the batting, I told my hubby to grab a couple and do that as a warning to other field mice. FYI he thought I was crazy. I'm going to show him these pictures! LOL!

  5. That is really kind of creepy. There are lots of coyote around here and we are heavily populated. Dog seem to be their favorite snack around here.

  7. Bet if you'd asked at the quilt shop, someone would've known what it was all about (if it wasn't too far away).

  8. Well, they do that because there are way too many and they cause a lot of grief on the farmers in that area on their sheep, chickens, and other animals. They hang them till the ground thaws, then they dig a big hole and bury them. They are probably still thawing themselves, so they don't stink cause the weather has been so cold.

  9. That really is disgusting! I am a huge animal lover, but also a big ol' hater of coyotes! Though I wouldn't display them quite like this! You just never know what you might see on a road trip. Hope you had a great time at the shop - I visited there once and found plenty of things that I just had to have!

  11. The lady at the little store said they display them to show the neighboring farmers just how many they have actually disposed of. Really weird.

  12. I understand a couple of years ago they had a sort of contest to see who could get the most. They get close to towns and cities and eat small dogs and other pets. They get pretty brave. Hope you enjoyed the quilt shop!
