So annoying...

Does anyone have an expression they almost always use? One that becomes synonymous with you?  Something that, whenever you say it, your friends kind of roll their eyes because you always say that??

Well, anyone who knows me in real life knows that I seem to always identify something that's bothersome or irritating as "ANNOYING".  If you think about it, though, it's a great, descriptive term. Someone cuts you off?  Really long check-out lines?  Trash can full?  No one replaced the toilet paper? Annoying, right?

Well, imagine my surprise when my 2-1/2 yr old darling grandson, who is still not speaking a whole lot of words, starting saying today "...nnoying"?? He and I often take little walks around their neighborhood in SF, where parking spots are at a premium.  I, of course, talk non-stop, commenting on everything we see, including how annoying it is when small cars take up an entire parking spot; or a scooter takes up an entire parking spot.

Today, on our walk around their block and to the park, all of a sudden he pipes in with "...nnoying", "whole spot" and "nice".  I thought it was kinda funny, although I can't say that my daughter and her husband were laughing much when we got back to their house and he was still saying "...nnoying"... But seriously, don't ya think it's a great word??

What're ya gonna do?? If that's the worst thing he learns from me, it won't be bad, right?

So, what are you most favorite expressions?? I want to hear them...and I promise I won't say that anyone's expressions are annoying!

Hope you all have had a wonderful Mother's Day.
Love to you all,
Randy

  1. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! No seriously, I have three teenagers and that is the phrase I find myself saying way too often. They are usually laughing and I am usually rolling my eyes when the phrase pops out of my mouth. What else can a mom of teens do?

  2. When I get irked (one of my favorite words) I say I'm going to spit little green peas! I can't take credit for it...someone in high school said it ALL the time. My daughter, who has her degree in graphic design, eventually drew a picture of me spitting little green peas! Too funny.

I think you are going to have to say something else...or nothing, when you are with mr darling.

    1. Didn't you do a whole blog post on how annoying it was that some people require a code in order to post a comment on a blog? I'd say that qualifies as annoying!!

  5. I'm laughing my ass off right now! For him to say 'whole spot!' was just too damned funny! Ha! I love this story!

And I am usually mimicked saying "I KNOW!" and "Jesus!" and "What the hell!?!"

I kindof think I'm annoying! Crap! lol

  6. Well, "annoying" would be a step up in my vocabulary because it's usually "Shit" or other deleted expletives being emitted. I have really, REALLY tried to clean it up but sometimes it just "explodes" out and I find myself apologizing profusely afterwards. Do mid-year "New Year's Resolutions" count??

  7. I am so happy the Linnie posted before me. I usually say "shit" too, although not so much anymore. I also used 'bite me' for a while. I kinda stopped that one too.
I do like that word, annoying. It is a good one. And if that is the worst thing the little cutie repeats it is not bad at all.
Sometimes you don't even know you say something often until a little one starts repeating it.
My DD at 2 was playing with a toy and looks at me and says "this damn thing don't work". Her Grandpa said that one. LOL
    Enjoy

  8. Seriously?? That's what my oldest grand says all the time (she's a pre-teen) and now the little one is saying it too. "Seriously, Gramma??" So I started saying it back to them and they found it very annoying!! I remember my son at two walking around saying "what the hell" because that's what the plumber said when he spent the day installing my sink.

  9. I am struggling with this one, Randy, though if you asked my adult children they would probably spout a list of things I "always say". I can't come up with one, myself. : )

  10. Wait until he starts telling stories about you to mommy :0).

I'm pretty quiet and don't have an expression......maybe I'll take up
one :0) I wonder if Ryan is going to find his new sib "annoying"?

    Happy Grandmothering and

    1. Oh he's already made it pretty clear that Mama is NOT holding that baby! So I'd say he's practicing the use of "annoying"!!

  11. It seems the older I get, the younger I talk...does that make sense? Anyway, I'm always saying "Fab" or "Cool". My husband (of 37 years) just called me on it the other day...."can't you say something other than 'cool'?" Well, yes, I sure as s*#t can, but WTF for? I'll stick with cool & fab, thank you very much. Oh, I like "bitchin", too.

  13. No little human ears around here, but I have little feathered recording devices in the form of parrots. Evidently, I say "Hmmmmm..." (in a most puzzled way) and "Awwwww...Crap!" a lot more often than I thought I did.

  14. I seem to say "actually" as I'm beginning to explain something. I find my grandchildren using it in the same way. They sound so authoritative. It makes me smile.
