July reprieve and a BIG BRAT

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to get over my guilty conscience and allow myself a little vacation! And I will draw a winner for the giveaway tomorrow.

So, in honor of you all, and more, I'm going to give everyone a vacation from Sow-A-Long blocks for July. YEAH! I know it's unfortunate I didn't think of this before so you could have totally enjoyed the month, knowing you had a reprieve. It's like the anticipation of a vacation: if you decide at the last minute, some might feel cheated in the lack of opportunity to revel in the anticipatory glow.

Well, you are granted a little vacation. But ONLY until Aug. 1st, when we will resume the first and third Wednesdays with our Sow-a-Long. So, now you have plenty of time to catch up! Or work on other projects (in case anyone has other projects they're working on...hahahaha).

I have a GREAT grandson story to make you laugh:
When we were in Hawaii last month, one day, Ryan was supposed to go down for a nap but wasn't in the nap mood. In my typical mouthy style, I told him he was a BIG BRAT for not napping.  Well, ever since then, he would occasionally mimic me and say he was a BIG BRAT in Hawaii. He knew exactly why...NO NAP. And then we'd laugh about it on our walks "round the block."

So yesterday, we were going up to SF to visit them but were trying to time it to get there after his nap.  My daughter texted me midway through what should have been his nap to tell me he was standing in his crib, jumping up and down, exclaiming BIG BRAT.  He wasn't going to nap. It seems he was too excited we were on our way. Kind of annoying, don't ya think?? ;-)

I thought it was the funniest thing.
Anyway, that's my tale of the day.
Hope you have a great Sunday.
Love to you all,
Randy

  1. Cute story...thanks for sharing! No blocks for another 2 weeks will give me time to complete something else without feeling I won't be caught up with this one. No worries at all and I'm glad you let us know the new plan! Amy in Wisconsin

  2. Sounds like a good plan to me. I had today to stay home and get caught up on some sewing. Doing pretty good but still aways to go. Heck...I'll never get caught up because I keep starting new things! But that's the fun of it all, isn't it?! Happy Sunday all. Tricia

It's especially cute when you are not the Mom having to deal with it! Oh, the joys of being grandma. : )

  4. Good plan, enjoy the rest of your summer ( from a chilly "down Under") Isn't it amazing the things kids learn the easiest are the things we would least want them to remember. This will remain a funny story to retell as ha grows up.

  7. Thanks for letting us know about the new time to post. Perhaps if you had announced earlier that posting would suspended for a month of vacation, there would have been none or few complaints.

  8. Funny! Kids come up with the darnest things. At least it's something nice and not SH** that my son said in front of my grandmother when a block tower he was working on fell over. He was probably about your grandsons age or a little younger at the time. I was horrified, but my grandmother just smiled and ignored it. I suppose she'd heard worse in her 93 years.

  9. That is sooo funny! I am not surprised that he couldn't nap knowing you were on your way to see him.
Years ago my Dad, to help Mom out, took my sister into the bedroom and layed down with her so she would nap. A short time afterthat she wanders out to my Mom and says "Shhh Daddy's sleepin". We were just laughing about that yesterday.

  10. Great plan, Randy! Maybe I can catch up a bit by then.
Grandkids are so much fun. Isn't it amazing how they best remember the things we'd least like them to? But, like has been said, this will make a great story. Sharon B

  11. Hi Randy,
I found your blog for random and wanted to let you know, that my (german) blog is the "twin" of your american blog. I named my blog "Stufen zum Gericht" what means translated Courthousesteps, because of my pashion for quilting and my profession as an attorney in family rights. You can find me on my blog, on FB, or here:
    http://www.odenthal-repschlaeger.de/
And of course, I've already sewn a barrister's block quilt for my husband, who is an attorney, too. I'm so exited that I found you and would be happy to here from you! Take care, Martina

  23. First off I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick
question that I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.

I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to
15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Cheers!
