Am I a hoarder???

I recently read a book called, "The Hoarder in You" about the problems people have with accumulating too many things.  Stuff.

There was one section where the author tried to differentiate between a collection and a stockpile!  I think the point was that stockpiling is BAD whereas if you are a collector, it's GOOD.

I thought it was kind of funny, actually, since I figure I'm guilty on all counts!  What about you???

Thoughts??

  2. I just love fabrics--they are not on display but stored on shelves in my closet away from fading sunlight...don't know which categories I fit in, but probably ALL of them...for many years i couldn't afford to buy a lot of extras, so now I go to town
    a bit....hahaha
(Got lotsa nice fabrics for my birthday this month--YAYAY LOL)

  3. Guilty! I've got a collection of stockpiles. I don't think you're a hoarder until you're sleeping on a pallet in the bathroom. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

  4. I heard it worded a bit different. Do you have a collection or an accumulation? My quilts are a collection, my fabric is inventory, my unfinished tops are a problem - ha!

  5. Quilters NEED fabric!!! A stash (stockpile) allows us to create at will. Nothing worse than having idea without the materials to see it through to fruition!

  9. My sewing room may qualify as a stockpile--everything else is a collection. : )

  10. I too am guilty of both, have 43 Royal Doulton figures and lots of pretty tea cups and saucers time it all went thinking of sending them to an auction house. My fabric hoard however no intention of parting with. Beads too should find a new hme as I rarely use them why did I buy all this stuff??!!

  12. Hmmmm, yes, yes and yes. So are you saying that hoarding is a bad thing? Wink. I can still walk into both of my sewing rooms so I think I am safe so far. I do use my "hoard" of fabric, but I must say that if I have only one small piece of a favorite fabric left, it goes into the "never leaving this house" pile. I need to sew more and worry less!

  13. Interesting. I think I am a bit of both. I don't go for duplicates of things unless it is to gift to someone else. But I do have a bedroom that can't be used as a bedroom as it is full of fabric, sewing machines, etc. But then I don't need to use it as a bedroom anyhow.
