Perfect 1/4" seam

Who knew that I wasn't sewing with a perfect 1/4" seam??!!
My friend Bonnie Hunter is always making sure she has a 1/4" seam so she wanted to adjust the seam on the Singer 301 I have for her to use while in Sunriver.
After she did that, she offered to adjust my Bernina 932 seam.
Amazing results!!!

This is what I'm working on first: assembling my X's and O's ! Whew!!

I am assembling them in groups of
"9-patches" although there's a row I need to put in between each set. Slow but steady progress! These blocks were made in a swap with my Wisconsin friends, organized by Pat Riley (Life's a Stitch Quilt Shoppe in Janesville). Each mini 4-patch finishes at 1" --- not kidding!

  1. I am 1/4" challenged also---just canNOT seem to get it right! Hopefully my footsie that I attached will help--but the guide isn't more than 1" long--so I'll have to go very slowly--love your quilt X's and O's--great neutrals...hugs, Julierose

  2. *LOL* As soon as I saw the thumbnail photo for your blog and saw the heading--before reading anything else--I knew Bonnie had arrived! You have now been taught the correct seam allowance by the master of correct seam allowances! : )
That X & O quilt is gorgeous--and I love that the blocks are that small!! How large will the finished quilt be--and will you miss it if I steal it? (Oops--I guess I shouldn't have said that out loud!)

  6. I love your X's and O's quilt! I can't believe the 4 patches are one inch!! Beautiful fabric choices! (the dreaded 1/4" seam, why is it so hard to get right)

  7. Good job Bonnie! And yes, that 1/4" does matter, especially when it comes to those X and O blocks. I'm totally envious of your sewing time together. Keep up the great work! Love that setting fabric! Looks awfully familiar! LOL!

  8. who knew you were suppose to sew at a 1/4 of an inch...vbg
I use Bonnie's tool all the time and gave quite a few away to my quilting friends. So happy you two are having such a wonderful time, you both deserve it.

  9. I bought one of Bonnie's 1/4" tools at one of her workshops in Texas and use it all the time - especially when I use my featherweight, which I am using a lot now since we are staying in the camper at our son's in OR.

  10. I really need that tool. Those 1/4" feet are not always exact. :( Your x's and o's are beautiful.
