Finally---

I've been completely consumed with trying to find a suitable location to move my 90 yr old mom once she is ready to leave the Board and Care home.  We learned a few weeks ago that she is not able to go home and live by herself anymore, due to her dementia and confusion as well as her instability.

I'm happy to report that we are moving her to a lovely Assisted Living facility in Bend Oregon in two weeks.  WHEW.  I won't go into the details of the call I got from Adult Protective Services following up on someone's complaint about my moving my mom up to Oregon...an organization that investigates abuse and neglect.  @#$@#$$#

Still hasn't helped my energy level.  But I have done a little sewing...Been trying to keep up on the baskets project being organized by Bea and Cecile in France.

This is a basket quilt I made about 15 yrs ago in an Asilomar class with Alex Anderson.  It is one of my favorites!  I have always loved basket blocks so I'm enjoying this project from France!

I'm hoping that February will afford me more energy and strength to sew more and post more often.  Thanks to those who asked about me during my long silence. ;-))

  1. Sorry I haven't been more in touch, Randy--barely keeping my nose above water myself, with caring for my Mom!
What is the issue about moving your Mom? Don't get it!
Great variety of baskets--love the little touch of the flower. :)
Now I want to make a basket quilt--but it will just have to get in line!
Hope February is kinder to you!!

  3. I know it doesn't help, but you are not alone. Have just started reading a book that has made me both sadder but not......Jann Arden (the Canadian Singer) wrote it, it is called, I believe, Feeding Mom. She has some interesting insights, well expressed. Its hard to lose a parent a little bit every day.

  5. Happy to hear you found a good place for your mom. It will bring you peace of mind. I love all your different baskets. So cute, especially the very scrappy one. The older basket quilt is gorgeous. I ♥ it. How big is it? January has been harsh on my energy. Hopefully we will both get better score in February. ;^)

  7. Oh Randy, I'm so sad to read about your dear Mom... She is very lucky to have a daughter like you. I sincerely hope that making some blocks escaped you from all these worries..... Life is not easy sometimes .... Sending you lots of hugs !

  8. I have suspected that your absence on the blog had something to do with your mother. You have been going through some big and difficult decisions on her behalf and it's not easy. It's good to hear you have plans for her that are progressing and you can begin to adjust to your new normal. Your beautiful quilting is a terrific outlet for you. Stitch on....... Shalom

  9. We all pretty much have been or will be in your shoes concerning a parent. Odd you'd get a call from Adult Services since she isn't even in your care at this point. Why don't they stick with investigating elder abuse? Which we know happens far too often.
Funny how sewing helps and soothes the soul. You baskets are cute.

  11. Everyone's path through dementia is different but we are by no means alone. Will be thinking of you and your mother during the transition ahead -- finding a place you like is so very important. Thanks for sharing your baskets - I love your completed quilt as well as the new baskets!!

  13. Love your baskets and your "vintage" basket quilt--lol! I hope things work out with your mom--it's so hard to know what's best and outside interference can't help. Take care.

  14. I am so sorry for the ordeal you have been experiencing. Dealing with elderly parents is so difficult and it sounds like you had insult added to your injury. Your baskets are beautiful! I wish you peace this week!

  15. You have made such beautiful basket blocks, old and new! So many difficult facets to these transitions for our parents. It will take time for her to adjust, it sure did for my Mom. I pray you will all be happy with her new home.

  16. Oh difficult times for sure; I went through this 10 yrs ago with my Mom (who passed 3 yrs now); she spent 8 good years in her facility. Dementia and memory loss are so difficult to cope with...I hope all goes well for you and for her in her new home...
Meanwhile, I LOVE your baskets...so pretty hugsx2 Julierose

  17. I am supposed to be doing the basket project you are participating in but have been sick. I hope to get caught up in February. I love the Alex Anderson style basket quilt you did. I took a two day class with her many, many years ago. Wonderful teacher.
