Not your mother's compass

I'm working on the Just Takes 2 red/white quilt and, once again, the block they've chosen could take forever-- a hand pieced compass! I'm not much of a hand piecer-- I rarely hand sew my bindings down. So I opted for a Dresden plate block instead--- got a chance to try the ruler I'm sending to Missy.
I will hand sew the center though!

  1. Good Save!! I love Dresdens anyway and compasses (or is it compassi??) look very finicky to sew....Reds are lovely...Julierose

  4. I considered the Just Take 2 blocks but thought they were way over my head. They are beautiful though...I'll just enjoy them through you! Thanks for sharing.

  5. I'm with you on the hand sewing. In fact, I often pay a friend to sew down my bindings. : )
Your Dresden Plate is looking good!

  6. I've seen several projects lately made with that Dresden plate ruler, and I was all hot and bothered to find one and buy it. But I slowed down, took a couple deep breaths, and checked my two boxes of specialty rulers. Yes, there was a Dresden plate ruler at the bottom of box #2. Specialty rulers are wonderful, especially if you use them. (hanging my head in guilty shame).
Love your red/white block. It's so precise!
