Antique quilts

We were tasting wine this week in Napa and visited with a friend who recently received a gift of her grandmother's quilts!! She even has a memory of cuddling under one of them when she was a little girl with the chicken pox!! I had to take some pictures!!

I thought the 9 patch dates back to early 1900s! I'm going to put on a new binding on the beige one, which I'm still trying to identify! Any ideas??

I love how some of these blocks are really scrappy! Just my style!!

  1. I really love the last one with the stars at the intersection of the geese. I may have to study it for awhile and maybe even try to make one. The scrappy churn dash blocks also speak to me. Your Friend's Grandmother was a wonderful quilter. Thanks for sharing her beautiful quilts.

  2. Your friend received some beautiful family treasures, Randy. Wonder if the name of the last one would be in the Brackman Encyclopedia? Keep us posted if you find it--in the meantime, when I have a few minutes I will see what I can find.

  5. Lovely quilts! The last one looks like Tangled Cobwebs #4404 from "5,500 Quilt Block Designs" by Maggie Malone.

    1. I think you're right. I still can't figure out how best to piece it. Thanks for figuring it out!

  6. I bough some pinks and blues to make a quilt very like the first one. Hmmm wonder where they are hiding? I love the churn dash. I love that block set on point (and straight set too), not sure why but there it is.
    Lovely quilts.

  12. What a Lucky Lady she is to have these quilts. You are nice to help her restore the binding on the tan one. Love the Churn Dash Block on Point, too. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to ask where are my Grandma's Quilts that she used on her bed??
