Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia

We have a friend who is the director of the Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square near Philadelphia, and we recently had the chance to see him at the Gardens. OMG!! This is an amazing place to visit! Reminds me of a European estate! Here are some of the pictures I took. No quilts but the gardens and fountains are just beautiful!

This is Pennsylvania- not Italy

I'd never seen a lightning protected tree!

This is a special train garden!!

Everything is garden related, including the bread and butter at the restaurant!

Look at these colors!

Bathrooms!! Each room has greenery in the ceiling! Oh and I've got to tell you that they have THE cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen!

These lily pads were imported and regrow every year!

Orchid gardens with such vibrant colors!

This area is being completely remodeled in the next couple of years!

This is a bell tower that chimes regularly! Very old!

Amazing!

Newly opened meadows with restored house from the 1700s

Isn't this a gorgeous house??!!

Next up: pictures from Winterthur exhibit of Downtown Abbey clothes!!

  1. Great photos. I took lots when I was there. I found those water platters fascinating.

  6. Facinating! If I have the chance to get back to PA, I'm going to want to stop for a tour. I like the topiary park at Deaf School Park in Columbus OH.

  7. Having grown up in the Hudson Valley, 1 hour north of NYC this was a place we used to visit every so often. Thanks for sharing -- you brought back some great memories of a favorite place.
