Quilt patterns in Spain

My Dh and I have been touring Barcelona this past week so I've been quiet on the blogging front. Certainly no sewing going on.

However I seem to find quilt patterns everywhere!  Yesterday we were in a lovely seaside town called Sitges that had the most quilt oriented benches I've ever seen! My Dh kept a calling it Stitches, which may mean that he has been well trained!

And there was this immense mosaic on a wall:

The hotel's steps:

Here is an idea of where we were:

Then back in Barcelona I found this:
Dirty and icky but surprising to see.

In Barcelona, we visited a most spectacular church designed by Gaudi with amazing stained glass, which provides almost all the light and is placed strategically!! Segrada Familia
Cal you see that each section was pieced?? I can't see much lead in between, if any.

I just love the colors!!

This is the outside:

It's not expected to be finished for at least another 10 yrs!

We fly home tomorrow and I'll post more pictures in the next few days. It's been a great trip and we saw quite a variety of places!
Had to put our feet in the Mediterranean Sea for sure!

  1. Oh thanks for the tour--just beautiful--that cathedral is amazing--enjoy hugs, Julierose

  2. Wow--what a beautiful place. Love the collection of tiled benches, stairs, etc. : )
    Those church windows are incredible!!
    Safe travels home!

  3. I love those benches and the stained glass is awesome!

  4. Quilty city benches; that's the perfect way to beautify a city, I say! Surely you have noticed how the sidewalks are quilted too. Lovely city. Amazing cathedral! Love the colours and the light show the windows make. Fantastic! ;^)

  5. Beautiful tilework. I've been to Barcelona and have seen that cathedral about 30 years ago, and it was still in construction then. I would love to visit it again.

  6. Amazing windows ... I would have been gobstruck by them! LOVED the benches with the quilt patterns ... WHO KNEW?!?! Glad you had fun ... looking forward to more pictures. Love traveling "with" you ;-) Linda

  7. I am intrigued by the stain glass windows. Went through a phase of making stain glass windows. Who is paying for this church to be built? The tile benches are great.

  8. Quilty inspiration everywhere you turn! What a fun vacation! Gorgeous pics! XO

  9. Great pix Randy! Makes me want to got to Spain for sure!! let me know when you can get together. cheers!
