Another Quilt of Valor and a year-end GIVEAWAY

I've been able to do a little sewing in between family events and babysitting (YES!!  had the baby to myself for 3 days while everyone went skiing!!).
I think I mentioned that I was going to use up the left over strips.  I wound up having to cut lots more but really had fun with this.  It's almost done.

My plan is to actually put red in the 4 corners.  I just haven't made those blocks yet.  Fun, don't you think?  I saw this pattern on Pinterest, which I never look at! (well, obviously, I did once!).

Last summer, I bought the Sisters Quilt Show poster (which I never do, either) and had it framed.  I just loved the picture this year.

Notice that it's still on the floor. I haven't hung it up yet.

My dh made an ingenious set up for me.  I have been watching Madam Secretary on Netflix (GREAT series, btw) on my little lap top.  We picked up a cable yesterday and he connected my laptop (11") to the tv and I'm now able to watch the show on my tv!  It's almost like IV tubes, I think!!

Maybe you've already thought of this.  I was excited.  My husband isn't the most handy kind of guy around, let me tell you! VBG  So this is an accomplishment!

We are coming to the end of 2016.  Hard to believe.  I'm going to have a GIVEAWAY to honor the end of the year.

Tell me something that you consider the highlight of your last year, 2016.  What have you done that you are most proud of??  Or what have you experienced that was monumental?  Or what has someone you know or love done that stands out above all else??  Can you send me your comments by Sunday, Jan 1st and I'll draw a winner on Monday??  I'll need your email address, please.

I've got a book I'd love to give away, "The Creative Pattern Book" by Judy Martin.  It's new.. I've never opened it.

  1. First of all, log cabin is my FAVORITE quilt block. Ever. It's so versatile. You are doing a spectacular job on that one ... kudos to you!! The poster is AMAZING. I love poster art and have more than my fair share still rolled in their tubes ... perhaps this will be the year that some go up ... it could be a revolving art show!! I have a TV in my sewing room ... NOT a "smart" TV ... I was going to buy a Roku box to stream movies and make my non-Smart TV a Smart TV but what your DH did might just be a better solution (and less expensive). My DH is VERY handy around the house ... he amazes me. Might need to bring this up at breakfast tomorrow. We're getting snow storms here so this might be the perfect "staying at home during the snow storm" project ;-) Linda

  2. Love your log cabin, the block is one of my favorites and I love red, white and blue in a quilt! This was the year of the epic adventure. Two friends from high school, my husband and I took a 4,600 mile motorcycle trip following parts of the Lewis & Clark trail. It was wonderful and a trip of a lifetime! We saw so much beautiful country, we will never forget it. Happy New Year!

  4. Love the log cabin blocks, it will be a beautiful quilt! My fav accomplishment this year was trying out free motion quilting and actually loving it! Did some doodling first as a warm up, and it really helped. So that I will try out some more in 2017!

  7. Love your log cabin--working on a small size LC as well, after seeing the one you saw in France. My accomplishment? Continuing to inspire and educate new quilters to follow our passion.

  8. I love scrappy log cabins....yours is looking great! I was profoundly proud of my sister this year. After 10 years of dragging feet, she and her hubby finally divorced (amicably) in June. They were still good friends when he suddenly passed away a couple weeks ago, but because they were divorced, his family has treated my sister with nothing but hate and contempt. But at the funeral, amidst all the snubbing and sneers, my sister was classy and respectful, and I couldn't have been more proud! So was her daughter!

  9. Charming log cabins. Love the touch of red in the middle and adding some to the corner would be simply awesome. 2016 was a rough year for me so my best moments was found in the little things. Finding the help I needed to get better, being able to get out of bed with no pain or discomfort, seeing the boys chow down a supper I made without a word because it is that good, you know, the little things. Hope the new year brings you wonderful little things your way and fills your heart with joy. (thanks for the chance but I'll pass as I have that one) ;^)

  11. I had another big birthday -- four score plus 5 and the kids had a surprise party at church. Quilting challenge is making a wall hanging for daughter who has been to Haiti many times on medical mission trips. It will have this quote from Ghandi: Live simply so others may simply live. Using Tanya Ricucci's book Word Play Quilts. Challenging my brain. I love you log cabin quilt.

  13. I am always inspired by your quilts. We must have very similar taste. My big accomplishment this year was completing the Cabot Cuties quilt with around 97 4.5 inch blocks. It is quilted and waiting to be bound and will be in the February quilt show.

  16. I always love log cabins. Yours is very lovely. It is very hard to choose a highlight for 2016. There were many wonderful simple things that happened that I am so grateful for. I think the very best highlight was when my husband passed serious medical tests with flying colors. Wishing you a Happy New Year!

  17. Of course I love log cabin blocks and the quilt is perfect! I know I'm too late, but the highlight of our year was our 2nd DS moving to Oregon!

  18. I love your log cabin quilt. They are timeless! The highlight for me year was reuniting with someone who had been out of my life for 13 years. (family misunderstanding). I am so thankful that after years of prayers, I have them back in my life.
