Pin cushion redone!

I finished up another of the Primitive Gatherings wool appliqué blocks and I'm happy to report that this one at least has the right shape! No more footballs!

You might note the difference in the way I did the stems.  I forgot that I'm not supposed to do buttonhole so I figured, oh well!

And I trimmed the pin cushion down to about 2" and gave it to a friend, who was delighted!  I think this size is better.

I'm yearning for a project and wonder if you know about any quilt alongs that are starting where there are weekly/monthly blocks to make??  I really enjoyed the Temecula Circa 2016 and was sad when that ended.  I know the Moda neighborhood quilt just ended as well.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!

  2. Temecula and Fat Quarter Shop have SALs that you have to pay for. Since I avoid SALs now, I really am not aware of all that is available, but I recall Cecile starting some kind of Log Cabin SAL in the new year.
Your wool block is cute, and you can use whatever stitch you want to use! : )
Though I love a big pincushion, I have to admit that this cut down version of this one is more appealing to me. Good call.

  3. I have 25 QALs pinned on my pinterest board for 2017. One started today with Pat Sloan doing a new solstice-to-solstice block of the week. https://www.pinterest.com/LaunderedCotton/2017-quilt-alongs-free-or-very-low-price/ <-- if that link doesn't work for you, e-mail me and I'll give it to you that way. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

  4. What fun projects! You could always finish your Porch Quilt- a few blocks a month. :) I'm doing Fall Festival by Jan Patek, but you'll need to purchase the pattern.

  5. Lovely woolly block. The stems are so old-folks-style. They keep the eye interested. Very well done.
Some quilt along? There are so many. Barbara Brackman is starting one but in January only. There's also the 365 Challenge Ultimate Sampler 2017 in Jan. (I'll have to get that url later as it seems to be a problem with it this morning.) Something you could join now is 150 Canadian Women QAL. It's 150 blocks (don't have to make them all) done in red representing 150 women. Each block come with the name and short profile of the woman it represent. Most interesting. It has already started but you can join in still. You need to print or download the pattern as they don't stay posted for long. There's three blocks per week.

Come January you can also follow Angela in her Rainbow Scrap Challenge. It's a different kind of QAL. You pick the fabric, she picks the block and the colour. You make as many (or as little) as you want. Hope you will find something that pleases you in all the suggestions you will get. Kimberly is loaded with ideas. Enjoy! ;^)

  6. Your pin cushion turned out great! If you are up for it, the Australian 365 Block Challenge will be repeated in 2017. I'm totally amazed that I have managed to keep up because some of the blocks were crazy, but it's a gorgeous quilt and I had to do it--haha! There are over 10,000 followers on Facebook, and the various colorways are wonderful to see! Also, look into the Aurifil sew along--it's sounds like it's going to quite a change-up from previous years.
