Just Takes forever, block 28

I'm participating in the Just Take 2 (NOT!!) quiltalong using red/whites and have really been enjoying it. It's a job to keep up with the assignments and some of the blocks are really challenging.  The latest blocks included a large applique.  I didn't think I could easily copy their design and didn't think it was necessary that mine match their pattern anyway. (what can I say? that's typical ME). So I went through my pattern books and found something in one of the Baltimore Album books---it's larger than they suggested but I'll figure it out. I appliqued it down by hand. Not making any others, I'll tell ya.

I'm kind of tempted to write my name in the center, as I've seen that done in the antique blocks.  I'm happy with it. Definitely not perfect but good enough (one of my favorite concepts!).

How are your sow-a-long blocks coming?  I'm busy writing patterns and sewing blocks so get to work!!! More is on the way!!

Love to you all,
Randy

  1. It's beautiful! There's no way I'd attempt that. I did a small appliqued quilt about 10 years ago. It turned out great but hated doing it.
I have 22 Sow Along blocks done so far. I probably should buy the book. lol.

  2. That is a beautiful block, Randy. I am still in the "no-applique" club, so anything in that department looks too hard to me! : ) Do put your name in the center!! Why not?
Okay, I need to catch up on the Bonus Block AND still the Christmas set from the last three. I need to get crackin'!

  3. You are one brave lady! I wish I had to nerve to sit and applique. My mom loves to applique but that is something that I just never picked up on. Your block looks beautiful.

  4. A lovely Fleur-de-lis!
    Inspired by Elly Sienkiewicz?

Oh yes inking your name in the block would be lovely.

    Happy Sewing

  8. My first thought was that the design would make a good signature block. Good choice.

  10. HAHAHA just takes forever for me to make the Paper- pieced blocks. I like the applique. Your block is nice and I would add your name if I were you. Seeing the shirting versions of you sow-along is tempting me to start to make another quilt.
