I'm still keeping up with the Moda Blockheads and some of the Splendid Sampler blocks...
Didn't think a pineapple would look good in red/white/blue so I tried a flag. Kind of pathetic and I may redo it... but it will hold the place for now! I've never sewn a flag freehand and I probably should've looked at a picture.
And sadly my Splendid Sampler block shrunk from the applique... but I think the fixed seam will be within the seam allowance and won't show. Story of my sewing life! I did change the bobbin thread to match the top thread, at least! Progress!
Those are very patriotic and adorable. Your applique work is perfect.
ReplyDeleteReally cute blocks--I like your flag--very prim looking...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYour flag is very cute! I'm sure it will work where you want it. Great solution on the appliqué block!
ReplyDeleteI think your flag is a good sub for the pineapple--fun! The Splendid Sampler block is adorable (I'm impressed that you changed your thread color--I usually have to get out my Pigma pens--lol).
ReplyDeleteI love the little add on strips to your applique block. You can just call it improv quilting!
ReplyDeleteNow I am going to need to make a red/white/blue/ pineapple to see if it looks good or not. :)
ReplyDeleteThe flag looks great--you just had to translate a rectangular object into square form. It is going to look a little different no matter what.
I'm guessing that from now on you will cut your applique backgrounds a bit larger than called for. Experience is a great teacher, isn't it.
Pineapples look great in red, white and blue. Check out Jedi Girl's blogpost here http://www.jedicraftgirl.com/2017/06/star-spangled-pineapple-quilt.html. Love it.
